INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

The lifeguard may prohibit swimming during periods of inclement weather, defined as severely heavy precipitation, high wind, extreme cold, or electrical storm activity, indicated by the presence of audible thunder or visible lightning within ten miles of the site, as indicated by radar or other reliable weather tracking system.

In the case that inclement weather causes lifeguards to clear and close the water site, lifeguards will wait 20 minutes before re-evaluating swimming conditions. During this period, the host may choose from the following options:

  • End service, with payment due only for the time that lifeguards remained at the service site. Once lifeguards have departed, service may not resume should the weather clear to permit swimming.

  • Retain the lifeguards until swimming may be permitted. Any service extension past the scheduled event end time will be charged according to the published rates.

If weather is ACTIVELY INCLEMENT prior to the event start, customers may cancel WITHIN two hours and up to 30 minutes of the scheduled event start time and receive a full refund of the deposit, provided lifeguards have not yet arrived.

CANCELLATION POLICY

With the exception of inclement weather outlined above, the following fees will be charged for canceling contracted services:

  • Cancellations within one week of scheduled service are subject to a cancellation fee of $100.

  • Cancellations within 48 hours of scheduled service are subject to a cancellation fee of $100, or 50% of the booking amount, whichever is greater.

  • Cancellations due to inclement weather will be charged only for the time that lifeguard/s remain on the property before the decision to cancel. All other fees will be refunded.

SWIM EVALUATION & LIFE VEST POLICY

To ensure all participants’ safety during an event where each individual’s capabilities are unknown, Backyard Lifeguards uses a nationally-recognized method of aquatic assessment for children ages 4 to 12. Before swimming begins, the lifeguard/s will conduct a brief activity to evaluate participants’ swimming proficiency, and may assign a color-coded wristband or life vest as appropriate. Any participant’s skill proficiency designation is at the sole discretion and determination of the lifeguard/s on duty.

Any child age 3 or younger, or any child that cannot swim AND cannot comfortably stand on the bottom in shallow water, must be accompanied by an adult wearing a swimsuit in close proximity in the water, or will be required to wear a US Coast Guard approved life vest.  Foam and air-filled flotation aids will be permitted only with direct adult in-water supervision.
